STUDENTS IN TÜRKİYE MORE PREPARED FOR "DIGITAL LEARNING" THAN PEERS IN OECD COUNTRIES

The results of the 2022 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) implemented by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) revealed that students in Türkiye are more prepared for digital learning than their peers in OECD countries.
STUDENTS IN TÜRKİYE MORE PREPARED FOR

According to the PISA 2022 report, while the average percentage of schools reporting a lack of digital resources in OECD countries was 24%, this figure was approximately 13% for Türkiye.

Both in Türkiye and OECD countries, the percentage of students experiencing a lack of digital resources in disadvantaged schools was higher than in other schools.

Jamaica had the highest percentage at 82%, while Singapore had the lowest at 1.5% in this regard.

The readiness index for digital learning, with an OECD average of 0.02, was calculated as 0.37 for Türkiye. The research results suggested that " Türkiye is more prepared for digital learning compared to the OECD."

The countries with the highest index values in this field were Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines, while Japan, Greece, and Argentina ranked lowest in index values.

Presence of online learning support platforms is influential

The research also revealed the connection between the improvement in readiness for digital learning and "online learning support platforms." According to the research results, the impact of these platforms on improvement was 78% in OECD countries and 91% in Türkiye.

Both in OECD countries and Türkiye, the rate of teachers having the necessary technical and pedagogical competence to use digital devices in education was recorded at 88%.

In Türkiye, 89 out of 100 teachers reported finding effective professional resources to learn how to use digital devices, compared to 76% for the OECD.

Preschool attendance rate

The research showed that in OECD countries, 57% of students in the 15-year age group attended preschool for 3 years or more, 24% for 2 years, and 14% for 1 year.

In Türkiye, out of every 100 students participating in the research, 44 attended preschool for one year, 21 for two years, and 11 for three years or more.

The average percentage of students attending preschool for one year or more was 76% in Türkiye and 94% in OECD countries.

When compared with students in Türkiye who did not attend preschool or attended for less than a year, those who attended preschool for 1 year scored 30 points higher, those with 2 years of education scored 29 points higher, and those with 3 years or more of education scored 15 points higher in performance.
